Comprehensive system integrity checks
System integrity checks are based on internal and external monitoring of the system. Externally, ping, http, smtp, POP3, ftp and DNS are monitored every minute. Internally, critical system processes such as name servers, crondeamon or mail servers are checked every 5 minutes. The integrity check also tests to see if the system exceeds or falls below the limit such as in terms of available hard disk space, user quotas, long-term system processes and exceeding the time limit for CPU-intensive processes. It also provides a comprehensive automatic evaluation of server log files on indication of malfunction. Typical incidents for system reports are, for example, first sporadic read errors of a hard drive or incorrect configuration of a name server.

Escalation concept
The escalation concept includes messages and urgency reports. If 80% of the hard disk space is exceeded, the system administrator is informed by message whereas if 90% of the capacity is exceeded an urgent notification is sent. All system messages are divided into various categories of urgency. Different notification can be addressed to different recipients. Typically, urgent messages are forwarded on to an SMS gateway while other system messages land in a normal administrator email account.
